Briar

The wastelands and neglected edges around my home are full of dense thickets of bramble, dog rose, rosebay willowherb and nettle. These places are often overlooked, yet they possess a tangled beauty and vitality of their own. Working directly from these environments, I used mud and pigments gathered on site to create paintings that reflect both the physical structure of the vegetation and the experience of moving through it. The works explore the complexity, resilience and quiet wildness found in these marginal landscapes.
